First Chair Festival

First Chair Festival

Gabrielle DeCristofaro • October 17, 2017 • Lifestyle •

On Sat. Oct. 7, the second ever First Chair Festival was held at Denver’s Performing Arts Complex in their Sculpture Park. Previously held in Salt Lake City, this skiing event featured seven films, the bands Air Traffic Controller and The Moth and the Flame, and numerous food trucks and ski companies selling and raffling off their equipment.

This year’s festival boasted seven feature-length films. Habit by Level 1 Productions relays a pertinent message for all of its viewers: there are as many paths to take as there are people in the world. Shooting in places like Iceland, Russia, and Colorado’s own Winter Park, the imagery emboldens their message by showing the distinct characteristics of each run in a few of the world’s most sought-after locations. Lite Years by The Big Picture, is a multi-year project following four friends, with edgy editing and risky filming. Chris Logan and Parker White become the models for an unconventional approach to filming their style of skiing. Guest List by Good Company features shots of the western US in both urban and mountainous areas, where Tom Wallisch and the Good Company crew take on world class runs and throw down tricks that have never been done before. In Gora by Picture Organic Clothing is the journey of six skiers over one month exploring the culture and skiing of eight countries! This film features a  stunning complication of the team’s skill set enriched by their infectious camaraderie.  Matchstick Productions has a large body of films, and their film Drop Everything was featured at this year’s First Chair Festival. This particular film captures an undeniable humor throughout. And This is Home, The Faction Collective‘s first feature-length film, is about knowing when you find “home”, and whether just a place, or if it can also be your goals and dreams. With an impressive range of footage, these films are not to be missed!

In addition to the films, music, and giveaways, a beer garden featuring an IPA and a lager from 10 Barrel Brewing Company, plus drinks from Hornitos and Fireball, kept festival goers buzzed all day long

Chatting with members of SASS Global Travel, they weren’t selling equipment, but rather they were showing their ski and surf trips to Argentina, Japan and Chile. In an effort to show their humanitarian spirit, SASS Global Travel was also leading a fundraiser for disaster relief since Maria hit Puerto Rico.

On the beautiful Saturday in Denver in October, before the festival closed out with the final two films, attendees were able to sing and dance with the awarding-winning indie-pop band Air Traffic Controller, and the alt-rock band The Moth & the Flame.
